McBride volunteered for the Army on his 18th birthday, as fighting was still raging in Europe and US Forces were struggling to drive Eurofed Forces from New York. He was still completing his training at the armor school in Fort Benning when Washington was destroyed; in the chaos that followed, the young McBride took charge of his platoon of M5A2 Schwarzkopf tanks and headed north in support of newly-elected President Alvarez. Now part of Bravo Company, 16th Armored Battalion, McBride and his tankers are known as the minutemen, hardened veterans of numerous battles against both the Continental Army and the rogue forces of Directive 31.
