Known as the Butcher of Smolensk, Sedov was promoted to Flight Leader in the 934th Ground Attack Squadron at the height of the collapse and assigned to support Russian units dealing with widespread unrest across the central district. When Russian forces in the center of Smolensk were being overrun during the winter riots, Sedov, on his own initiative, bombed the city square, killing nearly a three hundred civilians. As a result, he is known as much for his ruthless as his piloting skills.
