Bastion-class

The OCR designation for modernized Ticonderoga-class Guided Missile Cruisers they picked up before WW3.

Internal Designation: Guided Missile Cruiser

Classification: Escort

Displacement: 9,600 Tons

Number: 8 in 2054

Purpose[]

The Bastion-class is designed to act as the primary air defense warship. It is usually deployed to defend merchant vessels.

Capacity[]

The Bastion-class can carry a single Raven.

Sensors[]

The Bastion-class carries a commercial navigation radar, an OWS AN/SPY-6092 X-band AESA mounted on the top of its mast, and most importantly, the all-powerful AN/SPY-1 X-band radar. In addition, it carries a primitive Synthetic Aperture Sonar in its bow “bulge.” The sensors are linked up via the AEGIS Mk. V combat system.

Anti-Surface Weaponry[]

OWS L/57 76mm Autocannon (2)[]

The OWS L/57 76mm Autocannon is a modernized pre-GNC-period autocannon. Fitted with PHE rounds to either airburst a target, detonate on impact, or delay-action, the autocannon can engage a wide range of targets effectively. It can fire at a maximum of 120 rounds a minute, although it is set in 60 rpm. 120 rounds are stored in its two-layer carousel-style autoloader. They replace the original Mk. 45 127mm cannons.

Anti-Aircraft Weaponry[]

SM-6 ABM (128)[]

The Bastion-class carries its original loadout of 128 SM-6 Anti-Ballistic Missiles. The SM-6 is a very capable SAM, capable of engaging aircraft and missiles alike, at a maximum distance of 300 kilometers. And there are 128 of them.

Anti-Submarine Weaponry[]

Onward comes the Raven!

Upgrades[]

Towed SONAR array[]

For improved all-around detection, the Bastion-class can tow a SONAR array behind the ship.

Protection[]

Passive[]

The Bastion-class is protected by steel-Kevlar plating at critical positions, i.e. at the waterline. Fully waterproof compartments and a massive array of firefighting and leak-fixing tools are spread all over the ship.

Active[]

Guided weapons can be jammed by the onboard E/O jammer or chaff and flares dispenser. Aside from the ECM station and the chaff and flares launcher, the Bastion's two CIWS can also take out incoming missiles.

Phalanx Block 1B CIWS (2)[]

To provide basic protection against incoming missiles, the Bastion-class carries two Phalanx CIWS mounted on sides of its bridge superstructure. The Phalanx CIWS carries a M61A2 Vulcan firing 20mm PGU-29 AP/HE/Incendiary munitions, which make it potent enough against enemy missiles. However, missiles with thick hardened steel plating is another story.

Locomotion[]

The Bastion-class is powered by four heavy-duty Oceania-built naval-grade gas turbines burning JP8, to replace the old GE powerplants. They allow the 9600-ton boat to cruise through the sea at 25 knots. Maximum range 1200 nautical miles.
