Earthborn

At the edge of the woods, half a dozen ogre-like creatures rose up. Leo realized with nauseating certainty that they hadn't simply been hiding there. They'd risen straight out of the earth.

The ogres shuffled forward. They were small compared to Enceladus, about seven feet tall. Each one had six arms- one pair in the regular spot, then an extra set sprouting out the top of their shoulders, and another shooting from the sides of their rib cages.

-The Lost Hero

Six-armed ogres that take fancy to hurling barrages of mud and rocks.

The GAC wanted a previous generation SPH that was available by the numbers, to serve as a stopgap before it could field its 1000 km-range howitzer. Thankfully for the superpowers, they never did.

After the Second Cold War started, organizations like the NAU, APT, SAE, COA and OCR quickly modernized their forces, mainly by buying large quantities of top-notch previous-generation equipment from the superpowers. Consequently, the M109 SPH was discarded in favor of more advanced designs like the PzH2000, the Caesar SPH, the AS-90, the Denel G6, and the 2S19 Msta-M. Which opened up about 4,000 fine howitzers up to sale.

The GAC bought all of them off the market, and proceeded to upgrade all of them to M109A6 spec.

Sensory[]

The Earthborn retains the original vehicle's fire control system, mostly a long-range indirect sight, assisted by more advanced wind and gravity correction references, plus a laser rangefinder.

Upgrades[]

None.

Armament[]

L/52 155mm Howitzer (1)[]

The Earthborn is equipped with a manually-loaded L/52 155mm howitzer. It can send massive artillery shells carrying up to 10 kilograms of HE to a target 35 kilometers away.

Upgrades[]

White Phosphorus[]

Burning at temperatures in excess of 2500 degrees Celsius, WP is one of the most terrifying incendiary compositions out there, especially since it is adhesive to skin. Loads the shells with “Willy Pete,” making them far more deadly to infantry and even vehicles, if exposure time is enough.

Protection[]

The Earthborn is clad in Kevlar-reinforced Hardened Steel, making it well-protected against small-arms fire. Anything with more kinetic energy than a 12.7mm x 99mm AP bullet would be a different story.

Upgrades[]

None.

Mobility[]

The Earthborn runs on a refurbished Detroit Diesel 8V71T engine. It provides 450 horses to move the 28-ton self-propelled howitzer, making it able to steadily advance at a maximum of 56 kmph.

Upgrades[]

None.
