Great Wall Air Defense System

To keep invaders out, the ancient Chinese built the Great Wall of China, a military fortification visible from outer space.

In modern times, airpower is key, and so the Asians developed a new ADS. When combined with additional early-warning systems and the rest of its brethren, they can form a 21st-century Great Wall—extremely capable at stopping enemy aircraft incursions.

Sensory[]

The Great Wall ADS relies on three Amaterasu (the Shinto sun goddess) radars, two relatively flat-trajectory while one is pointed nearly 90 degrees upwards, serving in the ABM role. Each Amaterasu radar is a massive 10,000 transmit/receive module AESA radar capable of operating in either the X- and L- band. Two radars working together can reliably pick up the signs of an enemy aircraft at over 500km, while stealth aircraft can be tracked from 150km. A North Star “北斗星” friendly-tracker is standard.

Armament[]

TEL(8)[]

A given Great Wall battery has eight Transport-Erector-Launchers. Each TEL can mount either 4 SAMs or one ABM/ASAT.

SAM[]

The Sky Bow “天弓” 5 missile is a newly developed SAM, designed primarily to counter multiple aircraft. Packing not one massive semi-active radar homing seeker and one massive warhead, the Sky Bow 5 packs three independent Crossbow MRAAMs in a blow-off ballistic cap. Each Crossbow is a semi-active radar homing missile, packing a massive 50-kilo HE-I warhead that it can deliver (via a rocket-boosted ramjet) to a maximum of 170km. The Sky Bow 5 boosts them to 10,000m via a rocket-boosted turbojet, increasing range to 300km. The accuracy of each individual missile also allows it to target short-range ballistic missiles.

ABM/ASAT[]

To counter ICBMs or even low-flying satellites, the Great Wall can mount a single Guard “護衛” ABM/ASAT. The Guard is a massive two-stage missile, delivering a massive 75kg kinetic-kill tungsten block to flatten re-entry vehicles and slice through satellites. It has a semi-active radar coupled with an IR seeker to find and hit its target. The massive missile is capable of achieving Mach 25 as it strikes a target 500km above sea level.

Protection[]

5mm sheetmetal and camouflage netting, plus EMP-hardening. The Amaterasu radars can double as effective EW platforms, messing around with radars up to 400km away.

Mobility[]

The Great Wall ADS are mounted on massive 8x8 trucks of various manufacturers.
