For ultra-long-range EW support, the UEC came up with this: a nuclear-powered prop.

The UECAF fielded four of these in 2054.

Purpose[]

The Helios is designed to provide standoff EW firepower.

Equipped with a mechanically-aimed PESA in its nose and four X-band AESAs on its belly. In addition, it carries an all-around infrared tracking system.

Protection[]

Passive[]

The Helios is covered in a thin layer of Aluminum. It is also designed to reduce its signature- Infrared and Radar included. Its Infrared signature is reduced using a type of heat-dissipating coating, while RAM coating is applied, mostly to avoid a lock-on with a missile.

Active[]

In terms of active protection, the Helios carries a dedicated EW station, a next-generation standoff radar jammer, an “area denial” electromagnetic wave scrambler, long-range laser dazzler, standoff IR over-loader, which can create the illusion of a sun in Earth's atmosphere (hence its moniker, Helios) can have its four AESA double as a radar jammer, and also has a basic chaff-and-flares countermeasure set. Which means, it can create a powerful EW shield for its units in a 500-kilometer radius.

D-THEL(2)[]

Originally designed as a defensive laser, the D-THEL mounted in an aerodynamic turret on the plane's belly and on the fuselage's roof can also take up an offensive role-- to take out any airplane nearby. Thanks to it's near-instantaneous attack speed and excellent accuracy, it can fire on both aircraft tailing the plane or even missiles.

Locomotion[]

The Helios mounts three miniature fission reactors inside, cooled by running air through the system. One is used to power each set of counter-rotating curved 6-blade propellers, while the third one is dedicated to the EW portion of the aircraft. With large wings and shaped to reduce air resistance (and even create some lift), it can soar through the air at 60,000 feet and is only limited by the 30-day consumables storage on-board.
