Keto-class

Assault Carrier. Modified from the Wasp-class, it has become the prominent FCI assault platform/ staging ground.

Named after the Greek Goddess of Oceanic monsters.

Type: Amphibious Assault

Internal Designation: Assault Carrier

Displacement: 40,500 tons

Number: 8 in 2034

Purpose[]

The Keto-class is designed to ferry an assault force to an enemy beach.

Capacity[]

The Keto-class can carry two FCI landers inside its well deck, and 80 helicopters on its flight deck/ inside its hangar bays. It is normally a mix of 20 Gryphons, 50 Venti and 10 Harpies. Alternatively, in anti-submarine warfare mode, it carries 80 Sea Venti.

Anti-Surface Suite[]

The Keto-class mounts a single AN/SPS-67 Surface Search Radar. It is mostly used to track ships.

Mk.38 25mm Chaingun (3)[]

To provide the Keto-class with close-range anti-surface defensive firepower, it mounts three Bushmaster Mk. 38 25mm cannons. Manually operated, each can pump out a steady 240-round-per-minute stream of 25mm shells at a target one kilometer away.

Anti-Air Suite[]

The Keto-class mounts a AN/SPS-49 2-D air search radar and an AN/SPS-48 3-D air search radar. This provides it with good detection against other aircraft( like a F-16V) up to 250 kilometers away.

ESSM Twin-Quad missile launcher (2)[]

The Keto-class mounts two ESSM missile launchers. Each launcher carries two four-cell modules, totaling 16. The RIM-162 ESSM is a very potent SAM. It can deliver its 86lb blast-fragmentation warhead to a target 50 kilometers away- should it be a missile or an aircraft.

Anti-Submarine Suite[]

Unlikely to proceed without escorting warships, the Keto-class has no SONAR system.

Upgrades[]

A) Blast Protection

To provide the Keto-class with better durability against enemy munitions, it gets a coat that consists of ceramic-kevlar plating. This provides it with double the resistance to conventional explosives, making it able to shrug off 1,200lb TNT-equivalent explosive charges detonating on its keel.

Protection[]

The Keto-class has a basic steel hull and horizontal and vertical struts. It also has various watertight compartments. Firefighting equipment is strategically placed throughout the vessel.

Phalanx CIWS(2)[]

To provide basic protection against incoming missiles, the Keto-class has two Phalanx CIWS. The Phalanx CIWS carries a M61A2 Vulcan firing 20mm PGU-29 AP/HE/Incendiary munitions, which make it potent enough against enemy missiles. However, missiles with thick hardened steel plating is another story.

RIM-116 RAM launcher(2)[]

To provide the Keto-class with better anti-armored missile firepower, it mounts tow RIM-116 launchers that can provide it with a total of 42 RIM-116 missiles to shoot other missiles out of the air. The RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile, when fired, rolls to stabilize its flight, hence its name.

Propulsion[]

The Keto-class is powered by two General Electric LM2500 geared gas turbines, which provides it with all its electricity needs. It can cruise through the water at 35 kilometers per hour, and can do so for the next 17,000 kilometers before having to refuel.
