LCAC-II

The NAU needed a new heavy amphibious assault lander. The original USMC-use LCAC was pathetic- not fast enough, not protected, and not armed. And European landers were largely mismatched, creating logistical problems. Plus, the Panamanian government was increasingly insubordinate to NAU leadership. Rumor had it that the President was under the influence of a high-ranking General, who had connections with people in the terrorism business.

Well, someone had to find out the truth, right? What better way than to put boots on their beaches?

Type: Lander

Internal designation: Hovercraft Landing Vehicle, HLV

Displacement: 0 Tons

Number: 400 in 2033

Purpose[]

The LCAC-II is designed to deploy from a Paris-class Amphibious Assault Carrier's well deck, and put boots or tank tracks on the beach, then go back to the carrier and do it again.

Capacity[]

The LCAC-II is capable of transporting two M505 Spartan MBTs, or eighty tons of cargo. Alternatively one hundred fully-laden infantry can be deployed.

Anti-Surface Suite[]

None.

Anti-Air Suite[]

Anti-Submarine Suite[]

Protection[]

The LCAC-II must survive being shot at when it's at the landing zone. Therefore, the LCAC-II is protected by a layer of Chobham-II Composite armor to keep anything smaller than a 30mm APFSDS shell out of the ship's interior. Guided weapons can be jammed by the onboard E/O jammer or chaff and flares dispenser. Unfortunately the LCAC-II has no roof whatsoever to protect its passengers. The LCAC-II is also shaped to reduce it's RCS.

Propulsion[]

The LCAC-II is powered by two General Electric GTSnx-1B16 Gas Turbines. Mounted on the rear of the boat, they provide the LCAC's two lift fans to fill the composite-lined fiberglass hull with air and make the hovercraft hover. In addition they turn two six-blade propellers that push the hovercraft through the air. The LCAC-II can hover at 70 knots, and move supplies 30 kilometers to the beach at such speeds.
