Lyndian Dragon

A Dragon from Lydia. The FCI named their CAS fleet after such beings.

The FCI operated 200 of these in 2034.

Main Armament[]

The Lydian Dragon is actually a modified A-10 II “Warthog”. This provides it with outdated flight systems but good armor and more importantly, excellent weaponry. It is armed with the GAU-8/A Avenger, and has eight hardpoints for hanging ordinance. It can use six AGM-65 Mavericks/Mk.82 bombs, and two AIM-9X Sidewinders/Mk.83 bombs.

GAU-8/A Avenger[]

The most notorious 30mm Gatling gun in the world, the GAU-8/A can fire 30mm Depleted Uranium and HE shells at 1,800 rpm. This allows it to rip apart light vehicles, damage tanks and make both infantry and foliage disappear simultaneously.

Mk.82[]

The Mk.82 is a 500lb bomb. The FCI deploys them unguided, but are still effective when the delivery aircraft is a very low-flying aircraft, where even the dumbest of weaponry can be delivered with good accuracy.

AGM-65[]

The AGM-65 Maverick is a tried-and-tested anti-tank/ship missile. The weapon employs an active millimeter seeker to guide a 320lb blast-fragmentation warhead onto a target 25 kilometers away.

AIM-9X[]

The AIM-9X is the final product of the Raytheon AAM. It packs a 25lb proximity-detonation HE warhead, an excellent IIR seeker, and the Box Office vector-thruster guidance system that allows it to preform 60G maneuvers. This makes it very, very hard to evade within 25 kilometers.

Mk.83[]

The Mk.83 is a NATO-standard 1000lb high explosive general purpose bomb. Unfortunately the FCI deploys them unguided, yet this is traded off as the Lydian Dragon sticks close to the ground, where even the dumbest of weaponry can be delivered with good accuracy.

Upgrades[]

A) BLU-110

Replaces the Mk.83s with BLU-110 bunker busters. This provides the Lydian Dragon with the capability of preforming a dive and knocking out basic hardened structures with the hardened 4043 steel-protected delayed detonation warhead.

Armor[]

The Lydian Dragon is protected by a thick skin of Aluminum, Ceramic and Kevlar weave. The cockpit is further protected by a Titanium bathtub. This provides the Lydian Dragon the capability to shrug off 30mm AAA fire, and survive a 50lb high explosive fragmentation warhead detonation to the cockpit. In addition, it carries a load of chaff and flares to dispose of. A basic ECM suite is standard.

Propulsion[]

The Lydian Dragon is powered by two TF-34-GE-100A turbofans, each pushing out 9,000lb of thrust. It provides the Lydian Dragon with the capability to maintain a 350mph cruise for 920 kilometers.
