The ASW variant of the Sea Shadow. Being tiny and coming in large numbers makes it difficult for any submarine to fight off.
Internal Designation: Anti-Submarine Boat
Classification: Frigate
Displacement: 100 Tons
Number: 800 in 2054
Purpose[]
The Magnetron-class is designed to fight in a littoral battlezone, able to fulfill the anti-submarine warfare role.
Capacity[]
The Magnetron can carry a single Pegasus. It serves as anti-submarine, anti-ship, air-helicopter, and assault air cover. Carried in the rear of the boat, the stealth/protective roof and sides panels flip outward to reveal the boat's helipad/ maintenance bay.
Sensors[]
The Magnetron-class carries a commercial navigation radar and a pop-up OWS AN/SPY-8012 X-band AESA. It also carries a towed sonar to find underwater intruders.
Anti-Surface Weaponry[]
None.
Anti-Aircraft Weaponry[]
None.
Anti-Submarine Weaponry[]
None.
Upgrades[]
Punisher (4)[]
For amphibious assault where the force needs gunship fire support, the Magnetron can carry four small Punishers instead of one Pegasus.
Protection[]
Passive[]
The Magnetron-class is protected from anything up to 20mm AP shells via Naval Composite Armor, a potent aluminum-ceramic-Kevlar blend. Fully waterproof compartments and a massive array of firefighting and leak-fixing tools are spread all over the ship. It is also shaped to significantly reduce its RCS, to reduce detection and lock-on by anti-ship missiles.
Active[]
Guided weapons can be jammed by the onboard E/O jammer or chaff and flares dispenser.
Locomotion[]
The Magnetron-class is powered by an Indian or Brazilian-built gas turbine burning JP8, which allows the 100-ton boat to cruise through the sea at 30 knots. Maximum range 100 nautical miles.
