Oceanus-class

A Submersible Aircraft Carrier. Named after the Titan of the deep ocean.

Type: Secret Weapon

Internal Designation: Subcarrier

Displacement: 60,000 tons

Number: 1 in 2034

Purpose[]

The Oceanus-class is designed to send out surprise attacks via stealth fighters.

Capacity[]

The Oceanus-class can carry a compliment of 40 Gorgons.

Anti-Surface Suite[]

The Oceanus-class carries a retractable Thales Herakles multifunction X-band PESA. This provides it with good detection of anything on the surface of the ocean and in the air. However, it has no Anti-Ship weaponry of its own, and must send specialized Gorgons which can carry four AGM-65G Mavericks along with two Slammers and two Sidewinders each.

Anti-Air Suite[]

The Oceanus-class carries a retractable Thales Herakles multifunction X-band radar. This provides it with good detection of anything on the surface of the ocean and in the air.

RIM-162 ESSM (40)[]

The Oceanus-class has a two retractable 40-cell VLS that house a single RIM-162 Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile each. The ESSM is a potent medium-range surface-to-air missile that is also capable of engaging enemy missiles. It can engage at target up to 50 km away, and can deliver its 98lb blast-fragmentation warhead on target at over Mach 4.

Anti-Submarine Suite[]

The Oceanus-class has a single EDO Model 980 ALOFTS. This provides it with a heads up to enemy submarines, but it has no weapon against such targets.

Upgrades[]

A) ASW Compliment

To provide the Oceanus-class with ASW capability, it sacrifices eight Gorgons of a detachment of ten Sea Venti.

Protection[]

The Oceanus-class is clad in Material X, most likely a form of composite armor. It provides the Oceanus-class with excellent durability and protection against anything up to a 76mm MOM, and with excellent impact struts, it can survive anything short of a 300 kiloton keel detonation. It also has various watertight compartments. Firefighting equipment is strategically placed throughout the vessel.

Goalkeeper CIWS (2)[]

To provide the Oceanus-class with good defensive firepower against enemy missiles, it has two retractable Goalkeeper CIWS. The Goalkeeper has a GAU-8/A 30mm Gatling guided by an X-band radar and a Ku-band radar, which provides it with excellent firepower against enemy missiles. Heavily armored missiles are another story.

Propulsion[]

The Oceanus-class is powered by four General Electric S6G 3rd-generation Pressurized Water Reactors- plucked from a Los Angeles/Skolopendra-class submarine- that provide it with a combined 104 MW of electricity. From the reactors, it recharges a massive Lithium-Ion battery pack, and then is distributed to the ship's propellers, elevators, electronics, avionics and weapons systems. Steam from the reactors are used to power the ship's two steam catapults. It can cruise on the surface at 30 knots.
