Rapid Automated Trench Excavator

The BTM “high speed ditching machine” is completely functional, yet very old. Add the Imperium's love of trench warfare, and you can bet that a modernization was in store.

Modernization—with robots.

The biggest drone. Interestingly, the robotics part is built by Oceania.

Crew Composition[]

  • Drone—Drone operator

The empty space behind the trench excavation bit can be used by Inzhenery to pile on their engineering equipment.

Sensory[]

Four space-grade Navigation cameras, fitted in binocular pairs of two. One pair is mounted in front, one pair is mounted behind.

Upgrades[]

None.

Armament[]

Trench Excavation Bit (1)[]

RATE mounts a circular digging machine and a basic bulldozer blade. The bit can dig a trench 1.7m deep and 1.2m to 1.5m wide.

Field Defenses[]

The following is a list of field defenses the RATE can construct by itself.

  • Slit Trench: an earthwork with variable length, 1.7m deep and 1.2 to 1.5m wide. Combined with a low breastwork of dirt on both sides, it provides almost complete protection from small arms and shrapnel, and good protection from direct kinetic attacks (or being run over by vehicles) and concussion from explosions. However, they can collapse, and are not an obstacle to tanks, which can drive right over them. Can be upgraded with timer/steel reinforcement.

Upgrades[]

None.

Protection[]

RATE gets anti-mud protection.

Upgrades[]

Applique Armor[]

Bolt on some RHA armor, allowing the RATE to survive small arms fire and mild shrapnel.

Mobility[]

RATE is mounted on a BTR-100 chassis, giving it good all-terrain mobility. It is powered by a rugged 10.0 liter turbodiesel V8, giving it 500 horsepower. They directly power the vehicle's two tank treads, allowing it to hit 70kmph on a road, 45kmph off-road, or 30kmph when digging a trench. It has an electric generator connected to its engine, which supplies the electricity required for the operation of its circular trench excavator and the navigation equipment.

A pair of small propellers just behind the tracks makes it amphibious.

Upgrades[]

None.
